The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has announced the arrest of four individuals in connection with a fatal robbery at Ohwim Tigo Junction in Kumasi, which claimed the life of one victim.
The arrests are the result of an intensified police manhunt launched after the incident on February 10.
On that day, the victim, identified as Andrews Amankwa, was shot, and his Toyota Hilux vehicle was stolen.
He later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to the IGP, police investigations led to the first breakthrough on February 18, when suspect Akwasi Manu was apprehended while in possession of a mobile phone belonging to the deceased.
He was subsequently arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court II on February 20 on charges of possessing stolen property and has been remanded into police custody.
He is scheduled to reappear in court on March 5.
Building on intelligence gathered, police arrested a second suspect, Bashiru Tanko, at Atonsu High School Junction in Kumasi on February 19.
The operation continued with the apprehension of two more individuals: Kojo Amponsah was picked up on February 21 at Hwireso near Buokrom, and Emmanuel Kwame Appiah was arrested on February 22 at the Danyame Soldier Barracks in Kumasi.
The IGP also confirmed that a key suspect, identified as Eric Antwi Doku, succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during the police operation.
“Suspect Eric Acheampong Adu, who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation, has passed on,” the IGP stated.
He further revealed the nature of the criminal network, adding, “Our investigation further established that this criminal syndicate, led by the deceased suspect, specialised in the snatching of pickup and Land Cruiser vehicles.”
