Police arrest matron and cook for theft of students’ food at Sefwi Bekwai SHS

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two school staff members for the alleged theft of a large stockpile of food meant for students at Sefwi Bekwai STEM Senior High School.

The suspects, matron Bennedicta Nyamadi and cook Rahel Kyeremateng, were apprehended on December 23, 2025, following a tip-off to local authorities.

Acting on the intelligence, a joint team of police, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and the area’s Member of Parliament raided Kyeremateng’s home in Sefwi Atronsu.

The raid uncovered 21 bags of rice (50kg each), 54 tins of canned mackerel, 40 large tins of tomato paste, 6 gallons of cooking oil, Multiple sacks of gari, maize, millet, beans, sugar, and cartons of milk.

Police believe the suspects conspired to steal the items from the school’s store to sell later.

The total value is still being assessed but is expected to be significant.

A police statement indicated that, during interrogation, the cook implicated the matron, who was subsequently arrested at the school.

Authorities are now searching for a third suspect, assistant matron Hannah Dufie, who is currently at large. The investigation is ongoing.
