The Oti Regional Police Command has taken into custody a 36-year-old farmer in connection with the gruesome murder of an 80-year-old woman, Dakolor Semaka, in Kadjebi.
The arrest follows a formal complaint filed on March 24, 2026, regarding a violent domestic incident.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, identified the suspect as Chalim Madzaton, alias Peter Tano.
He was located and arrested at a hideout in Kpaya, a suburb of Ahamansu.
Police investigations reveal that the suspect allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Yaa Tugbenyo, 55, and her mother, Dakolor Semaka, at their Mangoase residence.
While Ms. Tugbenyo managed to flee to safety, she later discovered her mother unresponsive inside the home.
Upon arrival, crime scene investigators found the body of Ms. Semaka lying supine with visible physical trauma.
The body was transported to the St. Mary Theresa Hospital morgue, where a medical officer officially pronounced her dead. A post-mortem examination is pending.
The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before the court accordingly.
