The Ghana Police Service has apprehended two suspected armed robbers wanted for a string of violent highway and street robberies in the Bolgatanga metropolis, as well as along the major Bolgatanga-Walewale highway.

The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe, popularly known as “Mosbee,” and Jacob Akugri, alias “Weezy,” were arrested on May 9, 2026, in Kumasi.

Their capture followed weeks of coordinated intelligence gathering and surveillance operations by a special team from the CID Headquarters Operations Unit in Bolgatanga and Walewale.

According to preliminary police investigations, the two men are believed to be members of a robbery gang armed with two AK-47 rifles and several pistols.

The gang has been operating across the Upper East and North East Regions, targeting commuters and pedestrians in a series of armed attacks.

Victims have been robbed of cash, mobile phones, and motorbikes, with some of the incidents reportedly resulting in fatalities.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their participation in multiple robbery operations. They reportedly named one “Issaka” as the gang’s leader and another accomplice identified as “Araafat”, both of whom remain at large.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the fugitives, including individuals believed to be supplying the gang with firearms and ammunition for their criminal activities.
