Police arrest two in Obuasi robbery

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects linked to a robbery on an Indian national in Obuasi and prevented a planned attack on a distribution company in the area, authorities said Wednesday.

Acting on intelligence received on April 16, 2026, about a planned armed robbery, police apprehended Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso.

During interrogation, Fuseini reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang that attacked an Indian national at his residence in New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026, stealing GH₵150,000.

Investigators say the robbery was aided by insider information.

An employee of the victim, identified only as Ibrahim, allegedly tipped off the gang about large sums of cash kept in the house.

In a subsequent operation on April 20, 2026, police arrested a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” at his hideout in Gausu.

Mohammed reportedly admitted to helping plan the robbery and revealed that the same gang had targeted a distribution company near the Mawuli Hotel in Obuasi for another attack.

The police confirmed that both suspects are already standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court for a separate robbery involving GH₵600,000.
