The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested and charged two women in connection with the brutal assault of a 12-year-old girl, an incident captured in a viral video that has provoked widespread public condemnation.
The suspects, identified as Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, were apprehended on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
The arrest followed the circulation of graphic footage showing three women taking turns to cane the child in the La Roman Junior High School area.
According to a police statement issued on January 4, the attack occurred on Tuesday, December 30.
The victim’s mother subsequently reported the incident, presenting her daughter who bore visible injuries from the beating. Police have issued a medical form for examination and taken the mother’s statement.
Initial investigations reveal the assault stemmed from a disagreement between the victim and a 7-year-old boy, Horm Giftan Mesopeh, who is related to the suspects. The suspects allegedly went to the girl’s home to confront her over the matter.
A third suspect, Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, 49, the mother of the arrested women and a fashion designer, is currently at large, believed to have travelled to the Volta Region. Police say efforts are underway to locate and apprehend her.
The two women in custody have been charged and are assisting with the investigation. They are scheduled to be arraigned before the court on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The case continues to draw intense public scrutiny as authorities work to ensure all involved face justice.
