A joint police operation has led to the arrest of a woman accused of issuing death threats against President John Dramani Mahama and inciting attacks on the First Lady in a series of viral TikTok videos.

The suspect, identified as Mahama Aminat, also known online as Akosua Serwaa Minat, was taken into custody on May 20, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) working alongside the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Facebook, the arrest followed the emergence of multiple videos posted on TikTok on May 19, 2026.

In the clips, the suspect allegedly not only made insulting remarks about President Mahama but also explicitly threatened his life and encouraged others to harm both the President and First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama.

“The suspect was captured in some videos posted on TikTok making insulting remarks about the President, threatening the life of the President and inciting others to harm both the President and his wife,” the police statement read.

Authorities traced the suspect to Sekyere Zongo, a community in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region, where she was apprehended without incident.

Mahama Aminat is currently in police custody and is expected to appear before the court to face legal proceedings.

While the specific charges have not yet been formally announced, they are likely to include threats of death, offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace, and use of electronic communications to incite violence, offences that carry significant penalties under Ghana’s cyber and criminal laws.

“We will not tolerate any conduct that threatens the safety of our leaders or the stability of the state,” the statement added, urging citizens to use social media responsibly.
