Police in Koforidua are investigating the tragic drowning of a nine-year-old girl in the swimming pool of Tonyx Hotel, raising concerns about safety measures at public recreational facilities in the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred on Sunday while the girl was at the hotel with her father and five siblings. Although she was not swimming, she had been taking photos with other children by the pool.

As the family prepared to leave, they noticed her absence. A search led to the heartbreaking discovery of her body at the bottom of the pool. She was immediately taken to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead upon arrival.

The hotel’s management has expressed their commitment to cooperating fully with the police investigation and plans to address the media regarding the incident.
