The Ghana Police Service has confirmed it is investigating a fatal shooting incident involving a female police officer that resulted in the death of a taxi driver in Tetegu, near Weija, on Sunday, January 19th.
According to a police press release issued on Tuesday, preliminary investigations indicate the shooting followed a confrontation between the officer and the driver.
The statement alleges that the officer shot the driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi.
The victim was transported to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In a subsequent development, the police revealed that the officer was struck by a vehicle while attempting to leave the scene.
She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and is currently hospitalized, receiving treatment.
Police forensic teams retrieved several exhibits from the scene, including one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one empty 9mm cartridge.
The Police Service has assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and promised to communicate further developments in due course.
