The Nkwanta District Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting death of a 36-year-old man identified as Thomas Adon.
The incident occurred at Keri, a community within the Nkwanta South Municipality.
According to an official statement from the Ghana Police Service’s Oti Regional Headquarters, a joint Police-Military team was deployed to the scene on the same day following a report of the killing.
Upon arrival, the security team found the lifeless body of the victim lying in a pool of blood. Preliminary assessments indicated multiple suspected gunshot wounds.
Crime scene investigators later recovered a wooden object, 15 spent cartridges, and five live BB and AA cartridges. These items have been secured as evidentiary exhibits.
The remains of Thomas Adon have been transported to the mortuary at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nkwanta, where they will be preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
In response to the killing, the joint security team engaged with local chiefs, elders, and family members of the deceased.
The team extended condolences and pledged to carry out investigations with transparency, professionalism, and impartiality.
Authorities are calling on residents to remain calm and refrain from any acts of reprisal.
They have also assured the public that efforts are underway to track down and arrest the perpetrator(s). Citizens with useful information are encouraged to come forward to aid the investigation.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining peace in the area.
