A military officer is currently in detention after allegedly shooting and injuring a policewoman on lockdown duty at a checkpoint at Tema New Town

According to the Tema Regional Police Lance Corporal Francisca Tenge was shot by the military officer, without confrontation.

Facts of the shooting have still not been made clear, especially as to if the weapon was discharged accidentally.

The Ghana Armed Forces is yet to issue an official release on the incident.

The police and military were deployed in a joint mission to help curb possible ‘recalcitrant’ Ghanaians, who may refuse to abide by lockdown procedures as laid down by the president.

Medical Director at Tema General Hospital, Dr. Richard Anthony, whose facility Lance Corporal Francisca Tenge was taken to, says she is responding to treatment after being shot close to her thigh.

According to the health practitioner, Francisca was not bleeding when she was rushed in and was immediately attended to by the surgical team.

“There were entry and exit wounds but the surgical team did their best and can confirm she is responding to treatment,” Dr. Anthony said.

“There is no cause for alarm as we have attended to her. She will recover in due course,” Dr. Anthony assured

The doctor says Francisca’s recovery depends on her body constitution and there was however, no need to worry.
