Police rejected GHC150,000 bribe from drug suspect – Report

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has demonstrated resolute integrity by rejecting a GH¢150,000.00 bribe and arresting a suspect for the unlawful possession of 713 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The incident occurred during a snap checkpoint operation at Asanso.

On 26th January 2026, officers intercepted a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus with registration number AC 718-25.

A search of the vehicle uncovered nine nylon sacks containing compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs, concealed within the bus.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Atampugri Akanyani, was immediately arrested.

According to the police report, the suspect, in a direct attempt to corrupt the course of justice, allegedly offered the arresting officers a bribe of GH¢150,000.00.

However, the police team emphatically refused the inducement and proceeded with the lawful arrest.

The suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

Police are actively working to trace the source of the narcotics and identify any other individuals involved in the offence.
