President John Dramani Mahama has, with immediate effect, dissolved the governing boards of nine state-owned enterprises and public institutions, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), and Ghana Post Company Limited.
The directive, contained in a letter dated September 2, 2026, from the Office of the President and signed by Secretary to the President Dr Callistus Mahama, also affects the boards of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, and the National Sports Authority.
The letter instructs the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps, in accordance with applicable laws, to formally notify affected members and give effect to the decision.
Until new boards are reconstituted “in due course,” management teams of the affected institutions will continue day-to-day operations under the supervision of their respective sector ministries.
However, management is prohibited from taking major policy, financial, or contractual decisions requiring board approval without prior authorisation from the appropriate authority.
President Mahama conveyed his appreciation to the outgoing board members for their service.
