President John Dramani Mahama has told supporters of National Democratic Congress (NDC) that their contribution to the party’s return to power should not be measured in appointments or government positions.
Instead, he said their true reward lies in helping to build a fairer and more prosperous country.
Addressing the party’s grassroots, President Mahama acknowledged the long hours and hard work put in by activists, campaign teams and polling agents during the 2024 election.
But he cautioned that political loyalty would not automatically lead to state jobs.
The outcome of their sacrifice, he said, would be seen in a stronger nation “where opportunity is wider, justice is respected and hard work is recognised.”
President Mahama urged supporters to remain patient and united, describing nation-building as a collective effort rather than a pathway to personal gain.
His message formed part of a statement issued on 7 December, marking one year since his election victory.
He described the vote as a clear expression of public confidence in his “Resetting Ghana” programme and praised party activists as the “heartbeat” of the campaign that returned the NDC to office.
President Mahama addressed what he said were long-standing expectations among some supporters that campaigning for the party would result in jobs once the NDC regained power.
He repeated that appointments were not a reward system, and urged the rank and file to view their contribution in terms of national progress rather than personal advancement.
“The reward,” he said, “is the Ghana we are building together.”
He framed the new administration’s goals around fairness and opportunity, saying the country they aim to build is one where children can aspire to better futures and where merit drives progress.
Reaffirming the Resetting Ghana agenda, President Mahama said his government, would govern “without discrimination, without exclusion and without favouritism.”
He said this commitment reflects a broader vision of restoring trust in state institutions and widening opportunities for all Ghanaians.
