President John Dramani Mahama will lead Ghana’s  delegation to participate in the high-level week of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Session from 22nd-30th September, 2025 in New York.

The President is scheduled to address the UNGA Session on Thursday, September 25th, at the UN Headquarters in New York, on the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights”.

Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs made this known when he took his turn at the Government Accountability Series press conference held at the Presidency in Accra.

The Minister said President Mahama would make history as the first Ghanaian President to return to address the United Nations after leaving office for eight years and returning.

He said as part of his engagements while in New York, President Mahama would participate in several high-level meetings and side events.

Mr Ablakwa said notably, President Mahama, in his capacity as African Union Champion for African Financial Institutions, would host a side event on Africa’s Financial Sovereignty on Wednesday, 24th September.

This event, the Minister said would bring together Heads of State and Government, Finance Ministers and representatives of the African Union and other institutions to reassert Africa’s financial sovereignty, build momentum for the establishment and effective operationalisation of AU Financial Institutions and seek reforms in the global financial architecture.

He added that, given the role of the President Mahama as the AU Champion for Reparatory Justice for Africans and people of African Descent, and Ghana’s leadership in advocating reparative justice and reforms, Ghana would co-host a side event with the President of Senegal on Thursday, 25th September.

Mr Ablakwa said President Mahama was also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts to discuss issues of mutual interest.
