President Mahama visits Burkina Faso attack survivors

By News1

President John Dramani Mahama has visited two Ghanaian survivors of a horrific terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, offering personal reassurance that the state will bear the full cost of their medical treatment.

The President made the trip to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, shortly after returning from an official assignment in Takoradi. He was accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.

The two survivors were part of a group of Ghanaian tomato traders whose truck was ambushed by armed assailants. In a brutal sequence of events, reports indicate the attackers separated the male passengers, lined them up, and executed them before setting the vehicle on fire.

Seven Ghanaians lost their lives in the attack and have since been buried.

During the hospital visit, President Mahama commiserated with the victims and listened to their first-hand accounts of the tragic incident. He assured them that the government is fully committed to their recovery, covering all medical expenses incurred.

The survivors were repatriated to Ghana by the Ghana Armed Forces. Beyond treatment for physical injuries at the military medical facility, they are currently receiving comprehensive psychosocial support and counselling to aid their mental recovery.
