Mr Yakubu Faharudeen, the former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Mr Faharudeen described the President’s address as a strong demonstration of Ghana’s commitment to peace, development, and global cooperation.

He told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the President’s call for reforms at the United Nations (UN), support for Palestinian self-determination, and emphasis on sustainable development were crucial issues that required urgent attention from the international community.

“I wholeheartedly commend President Mahama for his bravery and leadership; he is definitely the present-day Dr Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory,” he said.

He noted that the President projected Ghana’s voice on the global stage by raising salient concerns and showing courage in addressing sensitive issues.

Mr Faharudeen also lauded world leaders who boycotted the conference room ahead of the Israeli Prime Minister’s address, saying the action reflected solidarity with the Palestinian people and a commitment against human rights abuses.

He reiterated the relevance of the UN as a platform for addressing global challenges and promoting peace, stressing that bold action and effective solutions were needed to make the institution more impactful.
