Residents of Manso Akwasiso appeal to government to help complete stalled projects

Residents of Manso Akwasiso, a farming community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, have appealed to the government and relevant authorities to help complete some ongoing projects in the town

The residents are eager to see the completion of a community centre project, install new electricity transformer, extend electric poles to unconnected areas, and rehabilitate the deplorable roads linking the town to nearby communities.

The residents spoke to journalists after a communal work on the ongoing community centre.

The project, which began through the community’s self-help initiative, is being funded solely by contributions from residents and well-wishers.

It is expected to serve as a multipurpose facility for social gatherings, community meetings, training programmes, and local development activities when completed.

Residents expressed frustration over the slow pace of progress, citing the rising cost of materials and the limited financial strength of community members as major obstacles.

They said that despite their efforts to mobilize resources and labour, completing the project without government intervention remained a challenge.

According to the residents, they are determined to transform the community through unity and self-help but needed external support to bring their vision to reality.

They said the completion of the community centre would not only enhance social cohesion but also provide a conducive venue for communal activities, educational programmes, and official meetings.

The residents also appealed to the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Company of Ghana to provide the community with a new transformer and extend electric poles to areas that were not yet connected to the national grid.

They explained that the existing transformer was overloaded, leading to persistent low voltage and frequent power outages that disrupted businesses and affected the use of electrical appliances in homes.

Mr Solomon Combat, a businessman, appealed to the government to fix the deplorable road network in the area.

He said the poor condition of the roads continued to hinder economic activities and discouraged traders from visiting the community to buy farm produce.

He added that during the rainy season, the roads become almost impassable, making the transportation of goods and passengers extremely difficult.

Mr. Combat expressed optimism that with improved roads, stable power supply, and completion of the community centre, Manso Akwasiso would experience accelerated growth and development.

He called on the government, the district assembly, and corporate bodies to pay attention to the needs of the community to help improve the livelihoods of the residents.
