Rev. Stephen Wengam, wife sponsor Legacy Temple at Paknatik

The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, and his wife, Lady Mrs. Monica Wengam, have sponsored the construction of a new legacy temple for the Paknatik Central Assemblies of God in the North East Region.

As part of their support to strengthen the work of the church in the community, the couple also donated 300 brand-new plastic chairs and musical instruments to the local assembly.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Rev. Wengam said the initiative was in fulfilment of a request made by his late mother, Madam Deborah Wengam, who passed away in October 2024.

Paknatik is the paternal hometown of the General Superintendent.

He noted that he and his wife funded 85 per cent of the total project cost, while members of the Paknatik Central Assembly contributed the remaining 15 per cent.

The newly completed edifice, which seats 350 worshippers, has been named the Rev. Elijah Namyela Panka Temple in honour of the first indigenous General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Elijah Namyela Panka.

Rev. Panka is credited with establishing the Paknatik church in the 1960s and playing a pioneering role in the growth of the denomination.

Rev. Wengam encouraged pastors and church members across the country to support efforts aimed at providing dignified places of worship, especially in rural and underserved communities.

The General Superintendent and his wife have so far sponsored the construction of five legacy temples nationwide, with a sixth project currently underway.
