Sekondi-Takoradi residents throng beaches to celebrate New Year’s Day

Hundreds of revellers marked the first day of 2026 with lots of social activities, with some thronging beaches within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to celebrate New Year’s Day with families, friends and loved ones.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited Vienna, Alan, and Last Hour beaches, it observed that the seashores, drinking spots, bars, and pubs along those areas were filled with holidaymakers who were seen swimming, with some dancing and making merry, while others rode on horses, among other fun activities.

Hawkers also took advantage of the occasion to cash in by selling food, refreshments, and other items.

In terms of security, the GNA observed that security personnel were present in the area to ensure the safety of the revellers who had come to have fun with their families.

Mr Desmond Tyro, Chief Executive Officer of Mayor’s Tap, who was in the company of his family, told the GNA that they decided to mark New Year’s Day at the beach to cool off, spend some memorable time together, and prepare for the rest of the days ahead.

He said: “Being the first day of the year, I decided with my family to come here and have fun, then we go back and recharge and continue the hustling ahead.”

He commended the operators of the beaches for ensuring that there were security personnel around to help guarantee the safety of the holidaymakers.

Mr Bismark Ansah, another holidaymaker, said the day was a time to connect and unite with friends.
