Two academic staff implicated in a documentary by the BBC titled ‘Sex for Grades’ have been asked to appear before the Disciplinary Committee of the University of Ghana.
Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Butakor are under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct following the video that showed the lecturers making demands from an undercover journalist who posed as a student.
In a statement, the Committee chaired by Justice Vida Akoto-Bamfo said it has found prima facie evidence of breaches of the University’s Code of Conduct and Statutes against Prof. Gyampo and Dr. Butakor.
The Committee further said the Vice-Chancellor has accepted its findings and forwarded the report to the appropriate quarters for immediate action.
The University of Ghana, however, reiterated its commitment “to rooting out sexual harassment and misconduct and reminds its students and employees of the provisions in its Anti-Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy as well as those contained in the Statutes of the institution.”
