Sissala East Assembly hands over infrastructure projects to contractors

Five communities in the Sissala East Municipality are benefiting from the construction of health and educational infrastructure projects to improve access to social services. 

The projects being funded entirely from the Sissala East Municipal Assembly share of the Common Fund, is aimed among other things to boost infrastructure across the municipality. 

Mr Adamu Yakubu, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Mr Issah Mohammed Bataglia, MP for the area who were accompanied by Assembly staff toured the five communities to cut sod for the commencement of work on the projects.

The projects included the completion of an abandoned 3-unit classroom block in Sumborun, estimated at about GHS 598,000.00 and an abandoned CHPS compound in Kuruboi estimated to cost GHS 860,000.00. 

Other three projects included CHPS compound in Nabulo Fachoboi, GHS 1,117,000, a 3-unit classroom block in Kulfuo Friwa Basic School, GHS 788,000.00, and another school block for the people of Bakwala, costing GHS 786,000.00.  

Mr Adamu Yakubu, the MCE said all classroom blocks would be comprehensive, featuring a storeroom, KVIP toilet facilities, a urinary, an office, and provision of electricity.  

The CHPS compounds would be equipped with essential facilities, including patient wards, delivery rooms, nurses’ quarters, and washrooms. 

The MCE assured the community members that funds was not a problem stating that the required funds were “lying on their account.” He stressed the importance of timely delivery, tasking every contractor with completing their project within a six-month window and called on the communities to offer their full support to ensure timely completion.

Mr Issah Mohammed Bataglia, the MP said the ongoing projects were in line with requests made by the communities during the last electioneering campaigns and described it as “good news and more projects” were anticipated for the municipality.  

In Nabulo Fachoboi, the MP further stated that plans were underway to convert the Nabulo health centre into a polyclinic.  

He promised the to help in the construction of a laboratory at the Nabulo health center to take care of the health needs of the people at real time instead of traveling to Tumu. 

Mr Bataglia said the intervention aligns with previous campaigns, focusing on improving healthcare access through the establishment of clinics and laboratories.  

He said the goal was to provide primary healthcare and reduce the need for residents to travel long distances for medical services.  

The women of Nabulo Fachoboi showed their appreciation for the new CHPS compound with a display of traditional dancing skills. 

Kuoro Jibiliru Nansia, the chief of Fachoboi appealed for more teachers and a dedicated teachers’ quarters.
