Six persons, including a three-month-old baby, have reportedly died in a devastating domestic fire that engulfed an apartment at Atwima Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The victims, all females and believed to be members of the same family, were reportedly trapped while asleep when the fire occurred around midnight on Monday, December 22, 2025.

An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency that the landlady noticed smoke emanating from the apartment and raised an alarm, prompting other tenants to flee their rooms for safety.

He said it was after firefighters extinguished the blaze that the bodies of the victims were found in the apartment.

Divisional Officer (DO) II Peter Addai, Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency, saying the Service received a distress call at 0053 hours and arrived at the scene at 0115 hours.

He said two fire tenders were deployed to fight the fire, which had already engulfed the apartment by the time firefighters arrived.

“The first team from the Nkawie Fire Station called for backup, and a second team from the Twedie Fire Station was dispatched to assist,” he explained.
