Six shot and three killed by gunmen in Oti Region

Gunmen have shot six people and killed three of them, at a funeral in Pai Katanga, a community in the Oti Region.

Also at the event, was an ongoing ceremony to install a new chief.

Three victims of the shooting died on the spot, whilst the other three are in a critical condition.

Nana Kofi Baafi I, who is a chief in the community, is amongst the victim in critical condition.

The shooting occurred at around 1 pm on Saturday and it is still unclear what warranted it.

Journalists, chiefs and other people who were at both events ceremonies had to hide from the gunmen in a room at the palace of the Paramount Chief, Nana Diawuo Bediako II.

More police personnel have been deployed by the regional command to maintain law and order in the area.
