The leadership of the Ghana National Cadet Corps (GNCC) has opened a week-long National Cadet Leadership Training Camp at the Sogakope Senior High School in the Volta Region, aimed at promoting discipline, loyalty, and patriotism among young leaders across the country.
The training, being held under the theme “Discipline and Loyalty: A Call to Review and Reset,” has brought together 717 participants from all 16 regions of Ghana.
Mr. Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio, the National Cadet Coordinator General of the GNCC, said the camp seeks to build and refresh leadership skills among cadet leaders and potential leaders while reinforcing discipline and patriotism.
“The essence of this camp is to bring young leaders together to refresh themselves on how to be more disciplined. Indiscipline in our schools remains a major challenge, and one key body that can help address it is the cadet corps,” he stated.
Mr. Tettey-Amarteifio said participants would undergo training in fire safety, basic policing, military drills, and leadership development to strengthen their sense of duty and responsibility.
He acknowledged the support of the government and called for enhanced assistance to make future camps more accessible to participants, particularly those from remote areas.
“Government alone cannot do it all. Participants have contributed financially to be part of this camp. However, we appeal for more support so that future editions can be made virtually cost-free to encourage wider participation,” he added.
Madam Victoria Dzeklo, the South Tongu Municipal Chief Executive, who represented the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, as Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, commended the initiative, describing it as a life-shaping experience that instills service, discipline, and leadership values in the youth.
“This camp is more than a training programme; it is a life-shaping experience. Leadership is not about rank or title but about responsibility, humility, and courage to do the right thing even when no one is watching,” she said.
She urged participants to remain focused, resilient, and committed throughout the training period, emphasizing that each challenge faced would strengthen them into becoming better citizens and future leaders.
Mr. Newman Dziedzoave, Headmaster of Sogakope Senior High School, expressed appreciation for his school’s selection as the host institution and encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity.
He urged the cadets to be patriotic, disciplined, and law-abiding, noting that the training would equip them to serve their schools and communities better upon their return.
The opening ceremony was attended by officers from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, and other security agencies who will support the week-long leadership and capacity-building training.
