Veteran musician Rex Omar claims that some artists demand ‘weed’ from event organizers before they perform.

According to him, the two parties sometimes agree to have the substance available before the artist mounts the stage.

Rex Omar explained that some artists claim that they need to smoke ‘weed’ to enable them deliver an excellent performance.

“There are artistes that if you call on them for shows, it is stated in their contract that you must provide them with weed backstage. That is what will help him do his work so you must provide it”, he said on Happy FM.

Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar, argued that if the substance really helps or not, it is none of anyone’s business.

The musician stressed that he does not have anything against people who smoke weed.

Rex Omar quickly added that he does not smoke the substance though he feels smokers of weed should not be judged.

“I don’t take weed yet I don’t have a problem with anyone who takes weed. We are sometimes too judgemental. If you eat kontomire and someone likes weed, they are both herbs so what moral right do you have to judge that person?”, he quizzed.

In the same interview, the musician said some artists are lured into taking drugs by their record labels.
