Some churches in Ghana, have decided in the interest of their congregants, to remain closed despite the president’s directive to lift the restrictions preventing the church services in Ghana.

Congregations like the Makers House Chapel, Spirit Life Revival Ministry and the Destiny Empowerment Chapel International (DECI) have issued statements advising their congregants to stay home despite the lift of the ban.

Head Pastor for Makers House Chapel, Dr. Michael Boadi Nyamekye, said they remain closed until the restrictions are eased further due to their numbers.

“Looking at Our Congregation size, Number of services required, Health of the active players in a service, Overhead cost, Pressure on equipment and facility, The logistics to put in place, i.e, writing of names per service and submitting it to the authorities, all the COVID-19 protocols.

“I deem it fit to announce to you that TMH (Destiny Arena) will remain closed for some time until we have clarity and the sanctions relaxed some more. I will entreat all of you to bear the church and its membership in prayer,” he said

In their communique, Dr Bernard Taylor, Senior Pastor of DECI said, ‘Let’s take our time and allow things to cool down before we engage in any social gatherings. We have our future and that of our children to protect. Let’s not die prematurely out of IGNORANCE.’

Prophet Bernard El-Bernard Eshun of the Spirit Life Revival Ministry also said, ‘The decision to keep the church closed has been taken in the best interest of all our members. We would like to ensure a safe space for our members and for those who visit our premises.’

Many Ghanaians have expressed mixed reactions to the president’s decision to revise his directive on social gatherings. Most people believe it is rather premature to make such decisions, whilst others believe it is the best way to learn to live with the virus.
