Sports minister worried about encroachment on Essipong stadium lands

Mr. Kofi Adams, the Minister for Youth and Sports, has expressed concern about the increasing encroachment on the Essipong stadium lands in the Western Region.

The 20,000-capacity stadium, constructed for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, had seen major rehabilitation after decades of the facility lying at the mercy of the weather.

Mr. Adams, during an inspection tour of the facility on Friday, was on the other hand dissatisfied about the time over run in delivery of works.

At the time of the visit, only the roof and scoreboard had been fixed, with the pitch and several other works still at ground level.

The Minister was, however, moved by the quality of work done.

The Minister was accompanied by Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority.  Mr Adams later called on the project consultant to speed up work for the recreational and sports needs of the people of the metropolis and the country at large.
