The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), has spent GHS143,187.60 cedis on 31 persons living with disabilities in the metropolis.
The amount covered the cost of 10 freezers, 10 ice chest, one water pump and hose, one oven and cylinder, two laptops, and one washing machine and cash assistance.
Mr Samuel Kojo Mensah, the Chairman of the Social Services Committee together with Madam Constance Baiden, the Metropolitan Social Welfare Head, supervised the distribution at the forecourt of the Assembly on Friday.
Mr Faustinus Faidoo, the Metropolitan Chief Executive said the government was committed to warding the streets off beggars which oftentimes were persons with disabilities.
Thus, the contribution to their wellbeing to ensure that they could make daily living, stay healthy and independent.
He said, the Assembly would from time to time undertake monitoring to see how best their request was serving their needs.
Madam Dora Gyasi, a mother of one of the beneficiaries was grateful to the government for the support.
She noted how challenging it was to raise children with disabilities coupled with stress and depression and asked society not to neglect them but show them timely support and assistance.
Madam Gyasi was grateful for the information and education the social welfare had been giving to them saying, “now, I have stopped crying and thinking, all I look forward to is help and work to take care of my son.”
