Head of Industry Support Services Department of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Kofi Essel, says companies or individuals including celebrities seeking sponsorship from alcoholic beverage companies for their events must first write to the FDA for approval.

He reveals the FDA will assess the situation and either approve or disapprove of such partnerships.

This new directive comes after the FDA banned celebrities from endorsing alcoholic beverages.

Kofi Essel also added that the FDA will process any individual or company for court if an alcoholic beverage company sponsors an event involving minors.

Responding to this development, C.E.O of 3Music Awards, Sadiq Abdulai says the directives by the FDA is kicking event organizers out of business because alcoholic beverage companies are one of their major financiers.

Also, award-winning artiste Stoenbwoy told Joy FM that he believes the strict directive by the FDA regarding celebrities endorsing alcoholic beverages might be a case of witch-hunting by the FDA.

Meanwhile, Communications Manager and Head of Productions at Charterhouse Ghana Ltd, George Quaye, has asked the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to show a research that proves that minors attend concerts sponsored by alcoholic beverages and get drunk.
