The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has included injured victims and family members of deceased persons of last year’s stadium stampede in its first batch of 2026 recruitment.
The selected candidates are expected to begin training soon.
A statement signed by the Acting Director-General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the GAF confirmed that 18 individuals injured during the El-Wak Stadium incident have been selected.

Additionally, five slots have been allocated to individuals sponsored by the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
The 23 candidates are among the first batch of 2,000 recruits and have been directed to report to their respective regional selection centres on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. to receive their appointment letters and prospectus.
This recruitment exercise is planned to occur in four batches.
The GAF indicated that consideration is also being extended to heroes of last year’s helicopter crash rescue operation in Sikaman (Ashanti Region), who are being considered for inclusion in the second batch.
The GAF clarified that a pool of applicants who scored high on the aptitude test remains under consideration for subsequent batches and urged the public to remain calm.
Also, applicants who failed the medical screening due to curable ailments have been advised to seek treatment; the GAF has pledged to invite them for a complimentary review at a later date.
The statement also expressed gratitude to the 16 regional administrations for their support in decentralising the process in alignment with government policy.
