Suspect arrested in connection with killing of police officer in Zebilla

Police have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting of a police officer during a robbery in Zebilla, in the Upper East Region.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Simon Apusiga, also known as Ananga, was taken into custody on February 10, following an intelligence-led operation.

He was apprehended in the Tarkwa Huni Valley area of the Western Region, where he had allegedly been hiding since the incident.

The arrest was carried out by a specialized team deployed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in response to the deadly attack on February 8, 2026.

According to a statement released on February 14 by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), preliminary investigations suggest the suspect fled Zebilla immediately after the crime but was tracked to his hideout through sustained intelligence gathering.

The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations and is expected to be processed for court.

Authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices believed to have been involved in the attack.
