Suspected armed robber killed in Lashibi robbery attempt

A suspected armed robber has been shot dead during a failed robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Lashibi, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the incident occurred on July 3, 2026, when two armed men on a motorbike attacked the vendor as he drove home from work with GHC140,000 in cash.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects fired at the victim’s vehicle, damaging the right rear tyre and front windscreen. After snatching the bag containing the cash, the suspects attempted to flee but were confronted by the complainant, who fired at them, killing one of the attackers on the spot.

The second suspect fled the scene, abandoning the stolen cash, which was subsequently recovered. The police confirmed that the complainant did not sustain any injuries.

A search on the deceased suspect led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines loaded with 55 rounds of ammunition, an additional 11 rounds of live ammunition, GHC3,000 in cash, a Samsung mobile phone, and an identification card bearing the name Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu, aged 46.

Investigators also recovered five spent AK-47 shells and two spent pistol shells from the scene. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Accra Regional Police Command has taken over investigations and is appealing to the public for information that may assist in arresting the fleeing accomplice.
