Group Captain Kwabena Krampah Antwi on Friday, August 7, assumed office as the new Commander of the Takoradi Air Force Base.
He took over from Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, who also served as the Two Garrison Commander, at a handing/taking-over parade held at the forecourt of the Base’s Administrative Block.
Air Commodore Yirenkyi, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the military high command for the trust reposed in him and the unwavering guidance and strategic direction provided throughout his tenure as Base Commander.
He said the timely interventions, confidence in his leadership and commitment to the welfare of the Base were instrumental in navigating challenges and opportunities during his tenure.
He also expressed appreciation to the Western Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional authorities and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation in maintaining peace, security and harmony in the region.
Touching on some of his achievements, Air Commodore Yirenkyi said the Base had enhanced operational readiness and safety standards, ensuring that personnel were prepared for any mission.
He said infrastructure and welfare for personnel and their families had also been improved to create a conducive environment for service, while civil-military relations and community engagement had been strengthened to foster trust and cooperation with host communities.
The outgone Base Commander further noted that the Base had fostered a culture of excellence, discipline and accountability across all units and departments, adding that they had built a legacy of teamwork that transcended ranks, units and departments.
“These achievements were not mine alone; they were ours, achieved through collective effort, mutual trust and shared sacrifice, and I am profoundly proud of what we have accomplished together,” he said.
Air Commodore Yirenkyi congratulated his successor on his appointment and assured him that the entire Base stood ready to support him to excel, flourish and reach even greater heights.
Mr Joseph Nelson, Western Regional Minister, applauded the outgone Base Commander for the excellent spirit of cooperation, professionalism and mutual respect that characterised his work.
Mr Nelson, who is also Chairman of REGSEC, expressed gratitude to Air Commodore Yirenkyi for his role as Two Garrison Commander, where he worked tirelessly to ensure the security and stability of the Western Region.
He congratulated the new Base Commander on assuming office and assured him of the full cooperation of all stakeholders to strengthen peace and stability in the region.
