Professor Mashud Mustapha, Dean of the Faculty of Creative Art and Technology at the Tamale Technical University (TaTU), has advised final-year fashion students to remain focused on fashion trends.

They should also be innovative to trek beyond the local markets as they prepare to complete their studies.

He told the students that skills and discipline they acquired during their training should serve as a strong foundation for their professional careers.

He gave the advice at the opening of a two-day annual Runway Renaissance exhibition, organised by the faculty to showcase final-year fashion projects under the theme: “Culture, Style and Sustainability.”

Prof Mustapha said the exhibition was not only to assess students’ projects but also to test their readiness for the job market, describing it as an occasion to “plant opportunities for final-year students to showcase their talents and skills.”

Dr Francis Kwekue, Head of the Department of Fashion at the Tamale Technical University, encouraged the students to carry the spirit of hard work, creativity, and innovation into their future careers.

He noted that the resilience and dedication exhibited throughout their course should equip them with a solid foundation to thrive in the creative industry.

“I am confident that your foundation is strong enough to take you far and that the discipline you have demonstrated here will guide you in the years ahead,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the final-year students, Ms. Amedjro Maod, expressed gratitude to the University and the lecturers for their mentorship, which she said pushed them to work hard and aim higher.

She noted that the exhibition was “more than a showcase,” describing it as a movement that honoured cultural heritage while embracing the future.

“From ethically sourced fabrics inspired by ancestral wisdom, every piece in this exhibition tells a story of transformation, resilience, and beauty with purpose,” she said.

She added: “As we witness this renaissance unfold, may it inspire us not only to admire but to act, to support fashion that uplifts communities, preserves the planet, and redefines elegance for generations to come.”

The exhibition brought together faculty members, students, and industry stakeholders to celebrate creativity, sustainability, and innovation in fashion designs.
