Teachers urged to accept postings anywhere as a call to national duty  

The Accra College of Education has held its 15th Congregation with a call on graduates to accept postings anywhere in Ghana without hesitation since it serves as a call to national duty.

The congregation was also the third of the 4-year Bachelor of Education Programme. In all, 385 students graduated out of which 56 students attained First Class honours.Furthermore, 251 students obtained Second Class Upper, while 78 students graduated with Second Class Lower.

Professor Samuel A. Atintono, the Principal of the College, who made the call, announced that for the first time in the history of the College, no Third-Class results were recorded, marking a 100 per cent improvement from the previous year.

He said the significant rise in First Class honours and the elimination of Third-Class results underscored the College’s unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and academic support.

He indicated that six special students sponsored by the Ga- Dangme Council were among this year’s graduating class, adding that the achievement stemmed from a deliberate institutional policy to train teachers who would promote the teaching and learning of Ga and Dangme“As part of this initiative, we allocate admission slots annually for the Ga- Dangme Council to identify prospective applicants who meet our admission criteria,” he pointed out.

Prof Atintono said in 2025, the College officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ga-Dangme Council, agreeing to admit 20 students annually.

“This accomplishment represents a significant step in our College’s efforts to promote Ghana’s linguistic and cultural heritage while expanding opportunities in indigenous language education,” he noted.
According to him, management remained steadfast in its commitment to staff development, supporting further studies and continuous professional growth.

He encouraged academic staff to stay committed to their doctoral studies in the light of this year’s migration policy, which has established the PhD programme as the minimum qualification for teaching at the college.
The College, he said hosted key educational events including the hosting of President John Dramani Mahama for the official launch of the Free Tertiary Education Initiative for Persons with Disability initiative.

He mentioned that the College had also agreed with the Mary Immaculate College, Ireland, to formalize a MoU on student and staff exchange programmes and professional development.

Professor Gabriel Nii Noi Dowuona, Chairman of Council, in an address, said management shared in the success of ggradutes as they venture into the world of work.

He urged the graduate to applaud the effort of management and both teaching and non-teaching for their invaluable role in facilitating the knowledge and skills they have acquired.

Prof Dowuona admonished the graduates to leverage digital education, particularly AI to further expand their scope of knowledge in the world of work, adding that, technology application for success was not just a choice but a necessity.

He encouraged the graduates to be active members of the Accra College of Education Alumni Association and contribute meaningfully to the development of their alma mater and the nation at large.

“You are not just individuals receiving degrees but ambassadors of knowledge, agents of resetting the economy for a better Ghana and the hope for a better future,“ he stated.
