Mr Gariba Marwan Abdul Rauf, the head of the Blood Bank of the Holy Family Hospital in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region has urged the people to voluntarily donate their blood to re-stock the bank to save lives.
Besides, he said blood donation was an opportunity for donors to know their various health conditions too.
Mr Rauf gave the advice when speaking at seperate blood donation exercises organised by the facility in collaboration with MTN Ghana at the Saint Francis Seminary Senior High School (SHS) at Buoyem and the Atebubu SHS in the region.
The events offered opportunities for the students to voluntarily donate their blood to support the blood bank of the hospital and to mark the 2026 celebration of Valentine’s Day.
Mr explained that the voluntary blood donation exercise “helps donors understand their health deficiencies like illnesses and other dangerous health complications in the body system and subsequently seek advice”.
He commended the MTN Ghana for the support, saying that exercise would greatly address the recurring acute blood shortage being experienced by the facility.
Mr George Peter Baalabuuri, the Senior House Master of the Saint Francis Seminary and SHS said the donation was in the right direction to enable the students to know their health status.
He noted that if the students knew their various health conditions, that would enable them to make informed decisions and manage their lives well.
In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Stephen Blewett, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana commended the donors for their selflessness in helping to save lives.
“Your blood donation is a simple, yet powerful act of compassion. Whether you are donating for the first time or have donated before, your generosity truly makes you a hero in our community”, he stated.
He described the MTN ‘Save a Life’ blood donation exercises this year as special, saying that “it’s a precursor to the network’s 30th Anniversary celebration in Ghana” and reaffirming that company’s dedication to support the nation to tackle critical needs within her health sector.
The events were expected to raise about 380 pints of blood for the hospital.
