The Tema Education Directorate has congratulated two teacher award winners for making the metro proud during the commemoration of the World Teacher’s Day held on October 05, 2025.

The two were Ms Sabina Ferguson-Haizel, a teacher at the Archbishop Andoh R/C Basic School, who emerged as the first runner-up, and Mr Michael Mensah Annang, adjudged the Most Outstanding Teacher in Leadership and Administration, at the Ghana Teacher Prize 2025 held at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho.

Mrs Bernice Ofori, the Tema Metro Education Director, congratulating the winners, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that her outfit had taken the Ghana Teacher Prize as its project.

She said a committee had been put in place for the project, and charged stakeholders including education officers within the metropolis, to continually monitor teaching and learning to ensure that the best came out of all the committee’s work.

The Tema metro had, within five years, done very well in such teacher awards, winning the prize for the Most Outstanding Teacher in 2020, and had always had representation in the Teacher Prize as well as the Global Teacher award.

Ms Ferguson-Haizel, the First Runner-up for the Ghana Teacher Prize 2025, said she believed  that her hard work as a teacher pushed her to the position, adding that she focused on innovative yet simple teaching pedagogies that made learning inclusive and meaningful for every child, regardless of their background.

She explained that she linked her classroom practices and community work to the Sustainable Development Goals, to show that education goes beyond the classroom, to transforming lives and communities.

“Above all, I put my heart into everything I do, and I think that passion spoke through my work,” she added.

Mr Annang, who won the Most Outstanding Teacher in Leadership and Administration award Winner, was identified for turning the Manhean Methodist Basic School into a thriving centre of excellence.

He had mobilised resources, revived enrolment and nurtured student leaders, which embodied leadership that transformed schools and communities.

Mr Annang advised all teachers to work with passion and commitment while having the aim of leaving an indelible mark in the lives of the learners.
