Reverend A.K. Mensah, a former Synod Moderator of Central Western Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has reminded Christians that God’s saving power cannot be defeated by persecution, poverty, or pain.
He explained that God’s power conquered everything through faith in Christ and endurance.
Rev. Mensah gave the reminder in a sermon at the farewell service for Rev. Dr. Francis Senyo Kuvor, SSNIT Flats District Pastor of the Church who was on transfer to the Ho Mawuli Estates congregation of the Church.
The service was held at the Kekeli congregation in Ho, the headquarters of the SSNIT Flats district, which comprises of Adaklu Kodzobi, Adaklu Vodze, Adaklu Have, Adaklu Dzakpo and SSNIT Flats, Ho.
The sermon which was on the theme, “the saving power of God” was taken from Jeremiah 29: 4 – 7, 2 Timothy 2: 8 – 15 and Luke 17: 11 – 19.
Rev. Dr. Kuvor who is also the General Manager of EPCG schools assumed duty as the district Pastor of the District in January this year but was transferred after nine months.
Rev. Mensah said God’s saving power referred to the divine ability and willingness of God to rescue, deliver, and restore His people from sin, suffering and every form of bondage.
He noted that, that power could deliver believers from all challenges and advised them not to be disillusioned by challenges and tribulations of life but focused on God instead of their afflictions.
Rev. Mensah continued that God would ultimate demonstrate His power and deliver them.
“The God who parted the red sea and River Jordan for the Israelites to walk through, saved Daniel from the lion’s den and the three Hebrew boys from the burning furnace is the God we are also worshipping.
“God does this to show that He is compassionate and also to glorify Himself,” he stated.
Rev. Mensah noted that, God’s saving power was not limited to the existential or physical needs of believers but also guaranteed their eternal lives.
He advised them to always demonstrate their appreciation and gratitude to God whenever they experienced His saving power.
Rev. Kuvor noted that he and his family enjoyed the cordial relationship and hospitality extended to them by members and hoped they would accord his successor same.
He was presented with a citation, parcels, an undisclosed amount of money, and a cheque by the church and individuals.
Mr Alfred Kumah of the ICT department of the University of Health and Allied Sciences chaired the function.
Present were Mr. Kofi Attor, Board Chairman of Mawuli Senior High School and the immediate and extended family members of Rev. Kuvor.
