Trader in court for posing as soldier to woo nurse at 37 Military Hospital

A romantic gesture has backfired spectacularly for a 34-year-old Accra trader, landing him in the dock of the Adabraka District Court.

Joseph Baadah’s attempt to win the heart of a nurse by posing as a soldier has resulted in criminal charges and a GH¢30,000 bail.

The court heard that Baadah, a resident of Agbogbloshie, was apprehended at the 37 Military Hospital on the evening of February 8.

Dressed in a full military camouflage uniform but notably lacking a rank, name tag, or lanyard, his appearance immediately raised red flags for a sharp-eyed member of the Military Police.

Upon questioning, the facade quickly crumbled. It was confirmed that Baadah is a civilian.

During interrogation, he confessed to a rather unusual motive: love.

He told investigators he had met a nurse at the hospital the day before and, hoping to make a lasting impression, purchased the used uniform from a popular second-hand clothing market at Kantamanto.

His plan, however, was anything but smooth.

He was arrested and taken to the Military Police Headquarters at Burma Camp before being handed over to the Nima Divisional Police.

Baadah has pleaded not guilty to the charges of illegally wearing military attire and impersonating a public officer.

He has been granted bail and is scheduled to return to court on March 24, 2026.
