Mr Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has said construction work on the reshaping of access roads in the Sunyani Daily Market (Masom Masom) will commence soon.

His assurance followed concerns raised by some aggrieved traders and market women about the deplorable condition of the market.

In an interview with the media at Sunyani, Mr Agyei urged them to remain calm, saying plans were advanced and they would soon see the contractors on site.

During an earlier visit, the traders told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) market survey that the poor condition of the access roads in the market had worsened due to the rains, slowing down buying and selling due to the rains.

Mrs Abigail Kyei, the leader of the fruit sellers, reminded the MCE and Mr Seid Mubarak, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East to fulfil their promise of improving the present condition of the market.

“The MCE and the MP visited the market and interacted with us about four to six months ago promising to reshape the access and we are reminding them of their promise”, she stated.

Mrs Martha Twumwaa, an orange seller, expressed regret that the rains had worsened the condition of the access roads, muddying the market, saying that was impeding buying and selling and other market activities.

Mrs Patricia Ofosu, a cassava seller at the market, said the present situation at the market had compelled many of the traders to move their businesses, selling along the shoulders of the main street at the market.

She said if something was not done immediately, the traders would choke the street, worrying that presently most customers and buyers no longer enter the market to buy.
