Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting of a reforestation worker by illegal chainsaw operators at the Abesewa Forest Reserve in the Ahafo Ano South East District.
The two individuals are currently in custody at the Tepa Divisional Police Station as investigations continue, with authorities vowing to track down the remaining members of the syndicate.
The shooting occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026, when a team from Next Door Farms, a private firm contracted by the Forestry Commission, entered the forest to stop illegal loggers from destroying newly planted trees.
According to sources, the team was met with gunfire as they approached the illegal operators’ site. One worker sustained severe gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Tepa Government Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Company executives, Mr. Moses Oppong and Nana Gyamfi, confirmed the incident and have called for swift justice, as concerns mount over the increasing violence against forestry workers in the region.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend all remaining members of the illegal logging gang, while security agencies intensify patrols in forest reserves to curb the growing threat.
