Egypt have won the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations on home soil after beating Ivory Coast in the final on Friday night.
They become only the third country after Nigeria and Gabon to win the competition which was introduced in 2011.
Captain Ramadan Sobhi scored in extra time as the Young Pharaohs claimed the trophy with a 2-1 victory at the Cairo International Stadium.
Karim El Eraky’s 37th minute strike s looked set to win Egypt the tile but with two minutes to end the game, Aboubacar Doumbia equalised for Ivory Coast to force extra time.
Sohbi, formerly of Stoke City, stepped up to score the winner for Egypt in the 114th minute.
Egypt’s victory comes exactly four months after their senior team failed woefully to win the AFCON as they crashed out in the round of 16 stage.
Aside from winning the trophy, they qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and will be joined by Ivory Coast and South Africa.
