Mr Bright Yaw Ahorlu, a 29-year-old graduate from Mafi-Kumase, Central Tongu District in the Volta Region is urgently seeking financial support to undergo an open-heart surgery.
The brilliant graduate of the University of Cape Coast with First Class Honours in BSc. Biochemistry and alumnus of Sogakope Senior High School was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in July 2024 at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Accra.
Medical specialists have advised that urgent surgery, estimated to cost USD 9,000, which would cater for the cost of further investigations, anaesthesia, surgery, intensive care, and admission for two weeks was his only chance of survival.
Routing his appeal to benevolent individuals and groups through Ghana News Agency, Mr Ahorlu, who was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease before he could even start his appointment with a reputable company, said despite the efforts by his family and well-wishers, the said amount remained beyond their means.
“My condition has worsened since my diagnosis – hole in heart over a year ago, making everyday activities a challenge for me. Sadly, the cost of the surgery and related medical care is estimated at USD 9,000, which even with the efforts of my family, colleagues, and well-wishers is far beyond our financial means.
They gave me up to this month ending to make payment so that they can fix a date in February for the surgery. Thursday, January 29 is another review session for me, and they said it would be good I come with a deposit, at least 50 percent of it so that they could start preparations.
I am therefore humbly appealing to benevolent individuals, especially His Eminence Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, Volta Region’s Representative on the Council of State and his Tanko Foundation, to come to my aid in this moment of great need. Their humanitarian support and intervention in any form will not only save my life but will also restore hope to my family and give me the opportunity to live, work, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

Mr Ahorlu whose medical reports and cost estimates are available for verification, can be contacted on 0542875116/0554951401 for support to help him undergo the life-saving surgery.
