UENR Basic School wins Ark FM’s fifth edition brain challenge    

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Basic School at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality was crowned the ultimate winner of the fifth edition of the ‘Ark FM brain challenge’.  

The school secured 78 marks to unseat the defending champions, the Nsoatre Sacred Heart Junior High School which had 72 marks in the grand finale of the competition, organised by Ark FM, a Sunyani-based FM station held at the Nsiah Gyabaa Auditorium of the Sunyani Technical University.  

Ark FM in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service with sponsorship from Pepsodent, Farmer’s Link Agro-chemical, H-lab, St Ignatius Eye Centre and Cowbell organised the 2025/2026 edition of the challenge which took 10-weeks in the preliminaries.

For their prize, each of the three-student representatives of the UENR Basic School received tablets with keyboard, gold medal, certificate, and hampers from Pepsodent and Cowbell with the school receiving GH¢5,000 and a trophy.  
Each of the participating students of the Sacred Heart JHS also took home a tablet, silver medal, certificate, as well as hampers from Pepsodent and Cowbell.  

Other deserving contestants also received cash prizes, citations, sets of computers and projectors as well as scientific calculators, 8-GB pen drives, bronze medals, certificates and hampers.  

Addressing the closing session of the challenge, Mr Vincent Antwi-Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive commended management of the FM station for the contest and urged them to do more to help improve quality education.  

He said that the government was putting up interventions to improve educational infrastructure to advance academic progress in basic and second cycle institutions and advised the school children to remain studious.  
Mr Godwin Atta Andoh Senior, the Managing Director of Ark FM emphasised the station’s dedication to augment government efforts to improve quality education and expressed appreciation to the GES and the sponsors for their support.  

He said the station instituted the challenge five years ago to build the potential of basic school children, saying that since then it continued to receive support from the GES and other partners, and commended the basic schools too.

Mr Benjamin Siripi Quartson, the Deputy Bono Regional Director of Education noted that the challenge was an opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom and also build their self-confidence and public speaking and commended the FM station for the foresight.
