Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been reminded on the need to reconcile, unite, and make wise leadership choices for victory in the 2028 general elections.
The timely selection and naming of a running mate would be a sign of maturity, confidence, and readiness.
These were contained in a statement signed by Ven. Fr. Aaron Moses Ato Eduah, Servant of God of the Religious and Social Department of the Office of Mr Kwamena Afenyo Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader of Parliament and copied the Ghana News Agency at Winneba.
The statement themed: “Choosing unity before victory,” said it was a pastoral message to the NPP on the importance of timely selection and naming of a Running Mate.
It explained that leadership was not only about strategy and victory, but discernment, timing, and the ability to carry everyone along with a shared sense of purpose.
“As we look ahead toward the 2028 general election, one matter stands out as both urgent and essential, which include the careful, prayerful, and timely selection and naming of a running mate which is not merely procedural decision but deeply strategic, moral and pastoral in nature.
“Leadership decisions shape party unity and the scripture reminds us that where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18, Habk.2:2).
“In political life, vision is expressed through clear leadership signals, and the selection of a running mate sends a powerful message to the party faithful and the nation at large of preparedness, inclusiveness and seriousness of purpose,” it stated.
It indicated that when such a critical decision was delayed unnecessarily, uncertainty could breed speculation, anxiety, and internal tension and conversely, when the choice was made transparently and in good time, it would foster confidence, trust, and collective ownership of the political journey ahead.
On avenue for resolving internal conflicts and challenges, it explained that one of the greatest merits of early selection and naming of a running mate was that space would be created for internal reconciliation.
Strengthening internal democracy and party morale was one of NPP’s pride for openness and respect for structures which reinforced these values reassuring party members that decisions were guided by merit, balance, competence, and national interest not by fear, pressure, or secrecy.
“A call to wisdom, prayer and Statesmanship like spiritual authority, must be exercised with humility and foresight and the leaders must rise above personal loyalties and short-term calculations instead of asking, what best serves the party, the nation, and future generations.
“May this process bring healing where there has been hurt, clarity where there has been confusion, and renewed strength where there has been weariness to move party forward as one family, resolved internally, prepared externally, and committed to the service of the nation.
“May wisdom guide our leaders, unity strengthen our party, and peace prevail among us all,” it added.
