The Volta Regional Police Command has engaged traders over allegations of harassment and extortion involving some police personnel operating along the Aflao-Sogakope Highway.
Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), said the engagement formed part of a fact-finding and public sensitisation exercise conducted by the Command on Monday, August 31, 2026.
He said the exercise followed complaints from some traders about alleged harassment and extortion by some Police personnel operating along the highway.
Chief Inspector Gomado said the engagement was aimed at listening to and understanding the concerns of the affected traders and establishing the facts surrounding the allegations.
He said the exercise also sought to address concerns about Police conduct and professionalism while strengthening relations between the Police Service and the public.
According to him, both Police personnel and traders were educated on their respective rights and responsibilities, as well as appropriate procedures for addressing concerns and grievances.
Chief Inspector Gomado said the exercise formed part of the Command’s commitment to professional policing, accountability, transparency, and improved relations with the public.
He said the Command took allegations of misconduct seriously and would ensure that concerns raised by members of the public were properly examined.
The PRO assured the public that appropriate measures would be taken against any police personnel found to have engaged in misconduct or acted outside their lawful mandate.
He encouraged members of the public to cooperate with the Police Command and report concerns through appropriate channels to enable the Service to investigate and address them.
