Volta Region to organise footvolley competition to unearth talent

The Volta Regional Footvolley Association in collaboration with the National Footvolley Federation of Ghana is set to organise a competition in the region to unearth new talents in the sport.

The event is expected to draw talented footvolley players across the region for selection into the national team for national competitions.

Mr Felix Apedo, the Volta Regional Representative member of the Federation, told Ghana News Agency in an interview that the competition would feature teams from various districts in the region, including Keta, Anloga, Akatsi, Aflao, Ho and Sogakope.

“The teams will compete in a knockout format, with the winners progressing to the next stage. The games will take place in December but the date and venue of the competition will be communicated soon for clubs to get registered.”

He said that the primary objective of the competition would be to identify talented players and provide them with opportunities for development, expressing hope that the event would put the region on the map and showcase its talent.

Mr Afedo explained that plans were underway to contact individuals, philanthropists, and corporate organisations to sponsor the competition to help provide some logistics to appreciate winners of the competition with prizes, including cash, medals and trophies.

“The best players will also be selected for further training and development and we will provide them with a platform to take their skills to the next level.”

The organisers, expecting a large crowd, would put all the necessary measures in place such as provision of equipment, medical support, and security for the participants to ensure a successful and smooth competition.

Mr Afedo said that a similar competition was organised during this year’s Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival where eight clubs from various communities in the Keta Municipality provided a representative team, with Super Stars from keta emerging winners while Bampa Footvolley Club from Dzelukope and Aboriginies Footvolley Club from Abutiakope emerged second and third respectively.

He appealed to sports lovers and stakeholders to support the event to unearth more talented youth and reshape them in the sports for a better future for the region and the country at large.

Some footvolley players Ghana News Agency engaged anticipated that the competition would be a competitive one but expressed readiness for the games and urged organisers to implement better rules and regulations for the competition’s success.

They said footvolley competition would be a significant event for the Volta Region and would also be an exciting experience for sports enthusiasts.
