Organizers of the annual Afro Nation concert have revealed that they had plans of organizing the grand final event in Ghana.

The suspension of this year’s event is due to the effects of coronavirus around the globe.

Afro Nation is aimed at celebrating Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, Ghana Rap, Reggae, and Dancehall.

In a statement issued by organizers, it stated that this year’s Afro Nation will be rescheduled to 2021.

In 2019, the three-day concert hosted about 20,000 people at the Laboma Beach Resort in December.

Music stars including Stonebwoy, Wizkid, Davido, Shatta Wale, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Teni, Becca, Kuami Eugene, Kofi Kinaata, KiDi, Naira Marley, Zlatan, The Compozers performed in 2019.

In an interview on YFM, Ricky, the country representative for Afronation, said they had wanted to wrap up the global event in Ghana.

However, the plan cannot hold because of the pandemic.

“One thing people don’t know is that Afronation is not an individual event. Last year, in Ghana, there was some level of investment from the UK government and from Live Nation which is under Jay Z, and several other people.”

“They understand it more. They understand their financial struggles within the year so it’s not just about Afronation, it’s about generally how these businesses have shattered in the year and the fact that they won’t be able to invest, not only in Afronation but in any other concert”.

According to Ricky, there were no considerations whatsoever for a virtual show because it won’t fulfil the aim of the concert.
