Zoomlion intensifies fight against disease-transmitting vectors in Upper West

The Upper West Regional office of Zoomlion Ghana Limited has intensified a region-wide disinfestation exercise to reduce the population of disease-transmitting vectors and promote a clean and healthy environment, particularly during the Christmas period.

The exercise, which was carried out from December 9 to December 22, 2025, covered all the eleven districts and municipalities in the region and targeted major breeding grounds for vectors such as mosquitoes, houseflies and other insects that pose threats to public health.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Ezekiel Ayamga Anabire, the Upper West Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa.

The statement indicated that key areas disinfested included public toilets, communal refuse container sites, refuse dumping areas, as well as educational and health institutions.

The exercise, which was undertaken with the support of the various Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to ensure effective coverage and coordination, also disinfested other potential harbouring points for vectors.

“The purpose of the exercise was to reduce the breeding of disease-transmitting vectors to prevent the incidence of cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery and other vector-related diseases.

The insecticides used were environmentally friendly and had the power to kill vectors harbouring in public toilets, dumping sites and other places that posed a threat to human health”, the statement said.

It further indicated that the company complemented the disinfestation exercise with intensive community sensitisation to educate the people on the importance of good sanitation practices in preventing sanitation-related diseases.
